Track Subjects Automatically Using DJI ActiveTrack
The APC-R / APC-R Mini / APC-R Mini Lite can enable remote activation of DJI ActiveTrack, allowing your gimbal to automatically follow a moving subject. To use DJI ActiveTrack, you must have either:
- The DJI RavenEye kit (included with the DJI RS2 / RS3 Pro / RS4 Pro Combo package)
- The DJI Intelligent Tracking Module and Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module (RS4 / RS4 Pro / RS5 only)
Setting Up the Unit
The DJI Intelligent Tracking Module is fully plug-and-play — simply connect it to your gimbal and it will be recognized automatically.
If you are using RavenEye, complete the following additional steps:
- Activate the DJI RavenEye and connect it to your gimbal following DJI’s setup instructions.
- Connect your camera’s HDMI output to the RavenEye.
- Confirm that you can enable RavenEye’s automatic tracking from the DJI Ronin app.
- Ensure your APC-R is configured correctly.
An HDMI splitter is required if you need the camera signal to feed both the RavenEye and an ATEM switcher.
Using ActiveTrack
To remotely enable or disable ActiveTrack using the APC-R:
- Position the gimbal so the subject is centered in the frame.
- Press the ActiveTrack button on the Middle Control (or trigger it via a Joystick, Bitfocus Companion, or VISCA-over-IP action).
- The gimbal will now track the subject automatically. Press the ActiveTrack button again to stop tracking.
The gimbal does not provide feedback on whether ActiveTrack is currently active or inactive.
Reframe during ActiveTrack
When Use Gimbal Settings is enabled in the APC-R settings, Middle Control behaves like the gimbal's built-in joystick — allowing you to adjust framing while ActiveTrack is running. Note that this may not be supported on all DJI RS gimbal models.
For best results, use ActiveTrack primarily with wide or medium shots. You can also fine-tune the tracking speed within the DJI app.
