Using Legacy S-BUS Control
You can control some gimbals through S-BUS. This older analog control method is only supported by the following devices:
- DJI Ronin-S, Ronin-SC, and Ronin 2, with the DJI Focus Wheel
- APC-R and APC (not APC-R Mini)
Get Started in 4 Simple Steps
- Put the Included Sticker on the Ronin
Place the provided sticker on the DJI Focus Wheel to remember the connector position.
- Connect your APC-R / APC
Connect the DJI Focus Wheel to your APC-R / APC using the gimbal cable.
Ensure the SBUS / CANBUS switch on the Focus Wheel is set to SBUS.
- Connect the APC to Your ATEM
Use either an SDI Program Output or any Camera SDI Output on your ATEM. Any output will work.
This only applies for APC users. If using an APC-R, connect Middle Control to your ATEM and to your APC-R through the network.
- Move the Joystick
- Map your USB Joystick Pan & Tilt axes in Middle Control, save mappings, and move the Joystick.
- The Camera ID selected in Middle Control must match the Camera ID set on the APC / APC-R via the Middle Setup iOS app.
Setting Up Pan / Tilt Channels
Follow these steps to set the correct pan/tilt channels in the DJI Ronin app:
- Launch the DJI Ronin app and connect to your Ronin-S / SC / 2.
- Go to User Profile and select M3 (User Profile 3).
- Next to the gimbal wireframe, select the dropdown menu → "Customized".
- Tap the three motors so they all appear deselected (disables "Follow" behavior).
- Set Push Pan to off.
- Press Control > to access the channels menu.

Adjusting Speed Settings
- In the DJI Ronin app, select User Profile 3 (M3).
- Go to the Motion tab (next to Channels).
- Adjust the following settings:
- Max Speed: Higher value = faster gimbal movement.
- Deadband: Higher value = more joystick movement required to start moving (recommend low).
- Smoothness: Higher value = smoother acceleration (recommend low or medium).
- Endpoints: Limits gimbal rotation angles to prevent cable tangling or hitting stops.
Additional APC Settings
In the Middle Setup iOS app:
- Connect to an APC and click "More Settings".
- Select a lower pan & tilt speed ("Low" option) for quick speed changes.
- Invert pan & tilt joystick direction if needed.
Ronin 2 Sticker Placement
For Ronin 2, connect the 4Pin port of the gimbal cable and place the sticker as shown to remember the wiring direction.
