The Problem

Canon Cinema EOS and CR-N PTZ cameras are common in broadcast, live-streaming, and event production — but they have no native path into the ATEM Camera Control workflow.

The Solution

With the ATEM Link feature of Middle Control Pro, Canon cameras using the XC protocol integrate directly into the ATEM control workflow over wired LAN or Wi-Fi. Iris, ISO, shutter, white balance, tint, ND filters, focus, and zoom all sync between Middle Control, the camera, and the ATEM — exactly as if your Canon were a native ATEM camera.

Supported Cameras

Canon cameras that implement the XC protocol are supported in the current beta, including:

• Cinema EOS — EOS C500 Mark II, EOS C400, EOS C300 Mark III, EOS C80, EOS C70, EOS C50
• Camcorders — XF605
• PTZ — CR-X300, CR-N700, CR-N500, CR-N400, CR-N350, CR-N300, CR-N100

PTZ joystick control

For Canon CR-N PTZ cameras, pan / tilt / zoom can also be driven from the joystick on the ATEM Advanced Panel or the ATEM Television Studio HD8 / 4K8 — alongside iris, ISO, focus, and color from the same surface.

How it works

1. Connect your Canon camera to your local network over Ethernet or Wi-Fi — no APC-R required.
2. Pair the camera to Middle Control — see the Canon Cameras setup guide.
3. Connect Middle Control to your ATEM switcher (Preferences Page).
4. In the Middle Control sidebar, select your camera and set the Camera Number to match its ATEM input.
5. Toggle the ATEM Link button on the camera page.

Done. Any change made on ATEM Software Control or your hardware panel is now reflected on the Canon camera in real time, and any change on the camera flows back into ATEM.

ATEM and Canon values don't always match exactly

Canon's parameter values aren't always a 1:1 match with the ATEM's. For example, the ATEM may show a 1/100 shutter while the Canon reports 1/120. If you need exact Canon values, you can disable ATEM Link on the camera page — but you'll lose ATEM-side control of that camera.
