Turn your Lumix BGH1 / BS1H into a PTZ Head

The Problem

The Lumix BGH1 (Micro Four Thirds) and Lumix BS1H (full-frame) were designed as compact box cameras — perfect for installation, multi-cam, and remote setups. But putting them on a remote-controllable head usually means committing to expensive dedicated PTZ hardware that locks you out of the box-camera form factor advantages in the first place.

The Solution

Combine three pieces of gear:

• A Lumix BGH1 (DC-BGH1) or BS1H (DC-BS1H) — or their successors AW-UB10 / AW-UB50
• A DJI RS-series gimbal with an RSA port — RS3 Pro, RS4 Pro, or RS5 recommended for the full-frame BS1H
• An APC-R, APC-R Mini, or APC-R Mini Lite

You now have a compact, remote-operable rig built around a true box-camera body.

Camera control paths

Direct camera control with Middle Control 4.0

Direct Lumix camera control requires Middle Control 4.0 or later — see the Lumix Cameras page. Control is over wired LAN with Middle Control.

You can also build the PTZ rig the classic way with these caveats:

• Pan / tilt / zoom via the DJI gimbal — fully supported with any APC-R variant.
• Record Start / Stop through the gimbal using the DJI Camera Control Cable — see Other Cameras. (For Iris, ISO, WB, and focus, use direct wired-LAN control instead — see the note above.)
• Full camera control (Pan, Tilt, Zoom, Iris, ISO, Shutter, WB, Focus, Rec) is available now over wired LAN with Middle Control — see the Lumix Cameras page.

How it works

1. Mount the BGH1 / BS1H on the DJI gimbal — confirm balance and gimbal payload rating for your lens.
2. Mount the APC-R Mini / APC-R Mini Lite directly on the gimbal's RSA port — or use the APC-R Gimbal Adapter / DJI Focus Wheel with the original APC-R. See the APC-R Quick Start.
3. (Optional, today) Connect the DJI Camera Control Cable between the gimbal and the camera for Record Start / Stop.
4. Connect the BGH1 / BS1H to your network via wired Ethernet for full camera control with Middle Control.
5. Connect the APC-R to your network. Middle Control discovers it automatically.
6. Drive PTZ from Middle Control, an ATEM Advanced Panel joystick, a USB gamepad, the Middle Remote, or any VISCA controller.
