Panasonic Cameras

Middle Control controls Panasonic AW-series PTZ cameras directly over wired Ethernet — no APC-R or additional hardware required.

Connecting the camera to Middle Control​

Panasonic AW cameras connect over wired LAN. There is nothing special to enable on the camera — Middle Control finds it automatically on the network.

If you use Live View, keep the camera's streaming mode on standard H.264 / RTSP — switching the camera to NDI, SRT, or RTMP modes cuts the stream Middle Control relies on.

How to Connect your Camera​

  1. Connect the camera to the same network as the computer running Middle Control.
  2. The camera announces itself and appears in the left sidebar under Scanned — click + to add it. If it doesn't show up, add it manually by IP address.
  3. If User Auth is enabled on the camera, Middle Control asks for its username and password once. Cameras with User Auth off pair with no dialog at all.
  4. Click the camera in the sidebar and assign a Camera ID.

Controlling your Camera​

Drive pan / tilt / zoom from the Motion Page, and exposure, focus, white balance, and ND from the Camera Page. The exact settings depend on the model — see the compatibility page.

Panasonic CX / UPX camcorders​

Middle Control also controls the AG-CX350, AG-CX200, AJ-CX4000, AJ-UPX360 and AJ-UPX900 camcorders over wired Ethernet. These bodies have no pan/tilt motors, so they behave like a Sony FX6 in Middle Control: exposure, colour and recording, driven from the Camera Page and the Live View.

Create a user account on the camera first​

Camcorders require a user account on the camera:

  1. On the camera, open Menu → Network → IP Remote → User Account and create a user name and password.
  2. When you add the camera in Middle Control, enter that user name and password. Middle Control checks them with the camera before the camera is added.

If the account is missing or the password is wrong, the camera is not added and Middle Control tells you why. A camera whose password changes later is unpaired with a message; add it again with the new credentials.

Live View uses the camera's RTSP stream. Keep the camera's streaming mode on standard H.264 / RTSP.

What you can control​

  • Iris — in f-stops, with auto iris on/off. The wheel on the Camera Page and the Live View picker use the lens's real f-number ladder.
  • Gain — in dB, on the camera's real range (−3 to +18 dB on the AG-CX350).
  • Shutter — in steps only (SPEED and ECS modes). These camcorders accept no absolute shutter value over IP, so the shutter has no wheel: use the + / − buttons, the Live View tile, Companion or the Middle Remote encoder.
  • White balance — ATW (continuous auto) or VAR (manual). The colour temperature moves in steps of 100 K with the + / − buttons; there is no absolute kelvin value on these bodies. The WB picker also offers an R/B gain mode: the WB column becomes the blue gain and the Tint column the red gain, both absolute.
  • Master pedestal, saturation and tint (red/blue balance).
  • ND filter — CLEAR, 1/4, 1/16, 1/64 on the AG-CX350 (the AJ-CX4000 and AJ-UPX900 do not expose their ND over IP).
  • Zoom — speed-only (zoom in / out). The camcorders do not expose an absolute zoom bar.
  • Focus — a focus bar (absolute) plus + / − on the AG-CX350, AG-CX200 and AJ-UPX360; absolute focus needs the body in manual focus. The AJ-CX4000 and AJ-UPX900 do not expose focus control over IP.
  • Recording — start / stop, remaining time on the card, red and green tally.
  • Camera buttons — USER 1 to 6 and the camera menu (open, navigate, select) from the Live View.

Quick Troubleshooting​

  • A camcorder refuses to pair — create a user account in Menu → Network → IP Remote → User Account on the camera, then add the camera again with that user name and password.

  • The camera shows offline after a password change — on the CX camcorders the camera is unpaired back to the Scanned list; add it again with the new credentials. (AW PTZ heads re-prompt for the password instead.)

  • No Live View — check the camera's streaming mode is plain H.264 / RTSP (not NDI, SRT, or RTMP).
