Middle Control controls BirdDog PTZ cameras directly over wired Ethernet — no APC-R or additional hardware required.

Connecting the camera to Middle Control​

Connect the BirdDog to the same network as your computer over wired LAN. There is nothing to enable on the camera first — Middle Control finds it automatically on the network.

How to Connect your Camera​

  1. Connect the camera to the same network as the computer running Middle Control.
  2. The camera appears automatically in the left sidebar under Scanned — click + to add it. If it doesn't show up, add it manually by IP address.
  3. Middle Control asks for the camera's dashboard password — the same one used by the BirdDog web interface (factory default: birddog). It's checked before the camera is added, and remembered afterwards.
  4. Click the camera in the sidebar and assign a Camera ID.

Controlling your Camera​

Drive pan / tilt / zoom from the Motion Page, and exposure, focus, white balance, and presets from the Camera Page. Middle Control reads the real iris and shutter values from the camera itself. The exact settings depend on the model — see the compatibility page.

Quick Troubleshooting​

  • "Incorrect BirdDog password" — the dashboard password doesn't match. Try the factory default birddog, or the password you set in the camera's web interface.
  • No Live View after a factory reset — a reset BirdDog disables its secondary video stream; Middle Control re-enables it automatically once the password is accepted.
